A Brief History of Tesla
First established during the early 2000s, Tesla unveiled its first car, the Tesla Roadster, in 2008. The Roadster was one of the earliest electric cars to demonstrate modern electric car performance and the potential of lithium-ion battery technology. Since then, Tesla has gained widespread recognition for its electric vehicles.
Tesla, Inc. was named in honor of Nikola Tesla, the inventor known for his groundbreaking work in alternating current technology. The company’s innovative manufacturing strategies, highlighted by its Giga-Tesla factories, significantly boost the production efficiency of electric vehicles, batteries, and solar products around the world.
This vertically integrated model has allowed Tesla to reduce the cost of electric vehicles, making them more affordable for a wider range of consumers. Ultimately, these strategies have been instrumental in the company's remarkable success.

Tesla Maintenance Schedule: What Maintenance Does a Tesla Need?
Teslas typically require much less routine maintenance than their conventional gasoline or hybrid counterparts. This is because Tesla only produces battery electric vehicles, cars that are powered entirely by their electric motor and a lithium-ion battery. Battery electric cars eliminate the need for oil changes, fuel filters, spark plug replacements, or emission checks. Furthermore, they do not have an internal combustion engine. As a result, Tesla owners can typically save hundreds of dollars per year on maintenance costs.
Tesla Battery Replacement
While electric car maintenance is often focused on its battery, Tesla's impact reports suggest that their car batteries are designed to last the vehicle's lifetime, estimated to be around 300,000 to 500,000 miles (roughly 483,000 to 805,000 km in the US. However, federal regulations require all new electric cars to come with manufacturer battery warranties of 8 years or 100,000 miles. Notably, some Tesla models, including the Long Range and Performance trims, offer extended warranties of up to 8 years or 120,000-150,000 miles.
Tesla Maintenance Schedule
*Please note that some maintenance intervals can differ depending on the model year.
Schedule | Tesla Maintenance |
---|---|
Every Day (or Every Time Before Driving) | Check the car's battery charge level (usually displayed on the touchscreen), exterior lights, turn signals, brake and seatbelt functionality, etc. |
Every Month | Top up windshield wiper fluid if necessary, check air conditioning system |
Every 6,250 miles (10,060 km) | Tire rotation, balance, and wheel alignment |
Every 12 Months or 12,500 miles (20,100 km) | Clean and lubricate brake calipers, especially for cars in colder regions |
Every 2 Years for Model 3, Model Y | Every 3 Years for Model S, Model X | Replace the cabin air filter |
Every 3 Years | Replace High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) Filter, replace air conditioning desiccant bag |
Every 4 Years | Get your brake fluid tested for contamination and replaced as needed |
In addition to regular maintenance items, Tesla owners may also need to replace certain parts from time to time, including brake pads, windshield wipers, and low-voltage batteries. However, compared to their gasoline-powered counterparts, these parts typically last much longer in Tesla vehicles.
